Living in A Milli Vanilli World http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milli_Vanilli
The current U.S.A. we live in is a Milli Vanilli world, Milli Vanilli was a singing group of two very attractive men who sang very catchy dance tunes that won a grammy, who in reality were used as the face of the music because the artists or the producer believed that the song would go nowhere without a pretty face, it was eventually revealed that the music was made by individuals not as sexually appealing. The last few presidential elections have begun to look like Milli Vanilli reruns to me. I have to say that the spin of Presidential Elections has gotten to be a lot daunting. All of the male major democratic candidates probably with the exception of Edwards (the bible belt is pretty conservative, especially when you grow up poor as Edwards has claimed to)have used drugs. All of them support abortion at various levels and we have a president in office that has admitted to being a heavy drug user.
The question then becomes what do we tell our daughters who have not adopted former beauty queens and pop stars as their role models, who don’t do drugs, who don’t have serial abortions and who are essentially good people. Do we tell our sons to be good or find the nearest corner and snort some coke because alas they may be president of the United States or a Presidential front runner. The contradictions between law and reality are daunting. The right way to behave is to try to be a good person, however American society is not divying out rewards to good people. For the girl or woman who decides to not have an abortion America labels her a young mother, a singe mother and terrorizes she and her children as Barack Obama said at his town hall meeting”You cant expect the same test scoresform low income children as you can from children from other homes. When the reality is you can. I suppose people can rest easier seeing a two parent household, economically stable with the realization that the husband has paid for over forty abortions and the mother has had ten abortions until she found the man of her dreams. “Real nice people huh”, A Milli Vanilli Reward!
As for the media the question then becomes why doesn’t the media take-more critical attitudes towards the people around us, towards people who want to be leaders of the free world. For me personally I think that it’s because the media participates in this behaviour. Everyone knows that Matt Lauer is a reformed drug addict and as for his major competitor no one is really sure what’s going on there. Is the anchor who comes on the competing show drunk, suffering from Alzheimer’s, high, or what nobody knows. We do know that the person who she replaced was clearly drunk most of the time up until she was replaced. However as we look at just these two cases we understand why the media does not take more of an inquisitive attitude towards political candidates with problems. The last time I checked it was incredibly hard to get rid of a drug habit and drugs cause you to lose weight and maintain weight as one homeless woman told me. “take drugs and you will lose weight” Not for me. However maybe good for media personalities and politicians with movie star looks. The only problem with the media, our perceived public that does not mind drug use is that our children our suffering. Certain members of the populace have evolved from cocaine and crack which kept you slim to meth which is a horrible drug that after three years of use can make a twenty year old look 60 years old. However the good times keep rolling for the politicians and media who used to do drugs and our kids say look at them. Do you think I want to be like my working stiff poor parents or I want to be a celebrity media personality or politician and be a drug addict. Reader you do the math. This is a Milli Vanilli World.
